Yuletide Timber

Tea lights take on a whole new glow when a small log is the candleholder. We cut a piece from a fallen white birch tree, but you can use wood from any fallen tree that’s about 6 inches in diameter and isn’t warped or decaying.

You’ll need:

From a fallen tree that’s roughly 6 inches in diameter, cut a 1-foot section of wood. At home, determine the side of the log you want facing upward, then use the saw to cut a flat strip about 2 inches wide. Mark the placement of the tea lights along the top of log, leaving about 2 inches of space between each tea light. Drill holes at marks, roughly 3/4 of an inch deep. Trim away any loose bark or birch paper around holes. Insert tea lights, light and enjoy.
