Traverse City, Mich., June 23, 2008—For the second year in a row, Traverse, Northern Michigan’s Magazine is proud to be a sponsor of the National Cherry Festival’s Cherries D’Vine food and wine party on Sunday, July 6 from noon to 4 p.m. Traverse will also make an appearance at the Meijer Festival of Races on Saturday, July 12. In anticipation of these events, Traverse is offering chances to win free tickets to the Cherries D’Vine event, which will feature front-row seats for the U.S. Navy Blue Angels Air Show.
“There are two ways to enter to win tickets,” explains Traverse marketing coordinator Suzi Bicknell. “We have a contest open to all visitors on MyNorth.com. And we’ll reward our Food & Wine Up North email newsletter subscribers with another contest open just to them.” Food & Wine Up North is a free monthly email covering food finds, farmers markets, restaurant offers, in-season recipes and news on regional wineries and distilleries, written by Traverse food editor Emily Betz Tyra. Subscribe to Food & Wine Up North at MyNorth.com/newsletter.
At this year’s Cherries D’Vine event, attendees will sample grilled and cherry BBQ cuisine with gourmet sides and salads—all complemented by the region’s most notable wines. As a bonus, attendees will have front-row seats for the U.S. Navy Blue Angels Festival Air Show over West Bay—right in front of Northwestern Michigan College’s Hagerty Center, where Cherries D’Vine is held. Traverse will be on hand to showcase MyNorth.com and its free e-newsletters, including Food & Wine Up North.
On Saturday, July 12, Traverse employees will staff the first water station of the Meijer Festival of Races, handing off cups of water to the 2,500 racers who participate in the 5K and 15K races.
“At events like the National Cherry Festival’s Cherries D’Vine, we’re able to show Northern Michigan all the products and publications inspired by our award-winning magazine, Traverse,” says Traverse marketing director, Rachel North. “In the last year we’ve produced free e-newsletters, like Food & Wine Up North, launched video on MyNorth.com, added a cottage rental directory—and we even have MyNorth T-shirts and coffee cups. We’ve been champions of the best of life Up North since 1981; these new publications and products are inspired from that foundation.”
