The nation’s greenest and greatest high school filmmakers will converge at the second Future of Cinema Festival at Interlochen Center for the Arts next month to screen their peers’ submissions of Narrative, Animation, Documentary and Screenplay, which arrived for judging at the Northern Michigan arts boarding school and camp back in February. Winners of each category receive an iPod Touch; all students get to rub shoulders with fellow up-and-coming filmmakers and professionals (last year’s illuminati included Jeff Wozniak, Senior Digital Artist at Lucas Films; actor Jeff Daniels; documentary filmmaker Ken Burns; Andy Davis, Director of The Fugitive and Holes; and Ivan Raimi, Screenwriter of Army of Darkness and Spiderman 3). The festival is held May 1 through 3 in the world’s first and only building dedicated to film education at the secondary school level. With its state-of-the-art film studio, editing and production areas, student housing and a movie screening room, it almost makes us wish we could do high school over again. Stay tuned for the winners and view last year’s winning films online. interlochen.org.
