Traverse City Buzz: While the Cherry Bowl Drive-In makes our summer bucket list every year, this summer it tops our to-dos. Why? Well, here's the hard facts: Within 3 months, the movie industry is switching from film to digital format. At the size of their screens, drive-in theaters face equipment costs of about $80,000 in the transition. Simply put, drive-ins need our help.
So that's where Project Drive-In pulls through. (Drive-in, pull through—nice, right?) In attempt to save this iconic piece of American and car culture, Honda is donating 5 digital projectors to drive-in theaters across the country. But here's the best part, we can choose where they go. Here's how:
1. Log onto projectdrivein.com
2. Choose your favorite theater
3. Vote once online
4. Vote once on your phone with the text code
5. Repeat every day!
We're shamelessly plugging for our local favorite in Honor, Michigan—Cherry Bowl FTW! But if you have a favorite drive-in elsewhere, now's the time to show your support.
Polls close on Monday, September 9, giving us each 50 opportunities to vote. Let's make history by preserving some this month!
