Three Ski Towns to Explore

Todd Zawistowski

Petoskey: Hip and cozy, P-town keeps its artsy vibe alive all winter long. Power up with fresh-roasted joe and scrambled egg wraps at Roast & Toast (231-347-7767), then stroll the historic Gaslight District (231-347-4150) for boutiques and galleries like Northern Michigan Artists Market (231-487-0000).

Frankfort: Snow-dusted mornings before runs at Crystal Mountain call for a slow eye-opener at Crescent Bakery (pictured, 231-352-4611), where breakfast panini are served on fresh focaccia. Betsie Bay Furniture (231-352-4202) is a must-stop for gorgeous furniture and housewares. Plan for dinner at The Fusion (231-352-4114) for Asian-inspired plates and lovely views of Lake Michigan.

Glen Arbor: This is a two fireplace town—warm up and chow down at the Western Avenue Grill (231-334-3362) at the east end of town, or go west a blink to Boone Docks (231-334-6444). Both restaurants serve up robust fare in cozy Northwoods splendor. For a quick latte hit, head to Leelanau Coffee Roasters (231-334-3365). Warm drink in hand, browse the cherry products at Cherry Republic (231-334-3150), the cozy log-cabin vibe of The Cottage Book Shop (231-334-4223), and the innovative, handcrafted jewelry at Becky Thatcher Jewelry Design (231-334-3826).
