Snowy and cozy ways to spend a winter evening in Petoskey.

Bay View

Bay View

Todd Zawistowski

Ski through the quiet, terraced acres of Bay View—a National Historic Landmark community, home to 440 Victorian cottages—on the north side of Petoskey. Sled, skate and ski away the afternoon at free-to-the-public Petoskey Winter Sports Park (1100 Winter Park Lane, 231-347-2500), but come sunset, get to Petoskey State Park (2475 M-119, 231-347-2311) to watch the sinking sun slice rainbows over the giant jewels of shoreside ice and snowy dunes. Afterward grab a whitefish quesadilla and catch the great drink deals at Side Door Saloon (1200 N. U.S. 31, 231-347-9291): Thursday is Ladies Night with $3.50 Chardonnays 8 p.m. to close and $5 cosmos and French martinis 9:30 to close. Find a leopard print chair next to the big canoe.
