Great hostess present at the holidays—or keep it yourself to eat before you set out on a wintry day.
6 cups rolled oats
1 ½ cups sliced nuts (almonds rock, but a mixed bag would work too)
¼ cup each of the following: raw pumpkin seeds, wheat germ, ground flax seeds, whole flax seeds, and sunflower seeds
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon salt (ground Celtic is best)
dash of cinnamon
3/4 stick butter
1/2 cup agave nectar or honey or maple syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup dried cherries
Preheat the oven to 300-degrees.
Mix the first six dry ingredients together in a large bowl.
Melt the butter in a small saucepan, add the agave/honey/syrup and vanilla, stir to combine.
Pour the butter mixture onto the dry ingredients.
Stir until everything is moistened and put the granola onto cookie sheets (the ones with side rims) – you’ll likely need two pans. Bake for a total of 25-35 minutes, depending on your idea of when the granola looks golden. Make sure to stir it at least once after around 10 minutes—mind the corners, or they will burn. Stir in dried cherries.
Take out and pour into canning jars. Wrap with a pretty ribbon and presto, you have a present.
