The mission of Child and Family Services is to strengthen and nurture children and families by ensuring their safety and well being while promoting healing and growth through education, support, and advocacy.
Child and Family Services has provided foster care and adoption services to northwestern Michigan since 1937. Over the years we have added a whole roster of programs to help people in need, including
Many! Child and Family Services offers a variety of meaningful volunteer experiences to those interested in making a
difference in a child’s life—and their own. These include mentoring a teen, child care, teaching a skill, collecting material donations, and assisting with our fundraising events or in our administrative office.
Many! Child and Family Services gratefully accepts tax-deductible community support to assure that all those who need our services can access them, regardless of their ability to pay.
Donations may be made online via our website, by phone, or by mail.
You may choose to support us with a gift to one of our endowment funds at the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation, the Petoskey-Harbor Spring Area Community Foundation, or the Charlevoix County Community Foundation. These donations are eligible for a special Michigan Community Foundation tax credit. Please visit our website or call our Development Office at 231.946.8975

Independent Living: Our greatest need this year is to be able to provide intensive independent living skills to youth 14-18 who will be aging out of foster care-- leaving the system at the age of 18 and expected to live successfully on their own. Our staff and volunteer mentors help teach youth everything from how to interview for a job to cooking and living on a budget. What 18 year-old is ready to face the world without support? Our Elements Independent Living Skills program provides kids an important foundation for success, which you can support!
Foster and Adoptive Families: Foster and adoptive parents are an ongoing need! The main requirements are a love of children and a willingness to be part of a professional team to care for them. Ongoing training, support, and reimbursement are part f our commitment to you. Please call us if you have ever considered exploring this challenging and rewarding journey.
Your help is so important--thank you!
