The mission of Northern Michigan Rheumatology, the practice of Irene S. Kazmers, M.D., is to provide high-quality specialty care focused on the diagnosis, management and treatment of the medical conditions and diseases within the field of rheumatology, including the various forms of arthritis, osteoporosis and autoimmune, systematic vasculitic and related disorders. These include rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic sclerosis, polymyositis, der-
matomyositis, ankylosing spondylitis, and many others.
Dr. Kazmers started practicing rheumatology in 1981. She graduated from Stanford University with Honors and Distinction in Biology, then received her M.D. degree from the University of California, San Francisco. She completed her Internal Medicine Internship and Residency and Rheumatology Fellowship at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Past academic experiences include serving as Clinical Assistant Professor on the rheumatology faculties of the University of Washington and the University of Michigan. She is Board Certified in Rheumatology and Internal Medicine with Added Qualifications in Geriatric Medicine. She is a Fellow Member of the American College of Rheumatology and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
In September 2009, Dr. Kazmers opened her private solo rheumatology practice, Northern Michigan Rheumatology, based in Petoskey, Michigan. She is a member and past President (2002-2004) of the Michigan Rheumatism Society. Professional activities include serving as current Chief of Staff at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital (NMRH), with membership on the NMRH Board of Trustees. Dr. Irene Kazmers has been recognized as a “Best Doctor”. She continues to devote her career to the care of those with rheumatologic conditions.
