Your Affordable North afternoon: Catch a tracking class at Grand Traverse Conservation District ($5 donation), then seek more outdoors inspiration in the taxidermied realm of Sleder's Tavern. They've got yer moose head, deer head, wolverine (whole thing), bobcat (whole thing) and that ever-elusive jack-a-lope (whole thing). They've also got yer dynamite hamburger--order one up with a nice hot cocoa and whipped cream.

Sign up for the Art of Tracking & Bird Language, Saturday, January 24 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., and messages from the natural world will take on meaning, tell you a story about what's around you.

This program is only open to adults and will be meeting at the Boardman River Nature Center.  Native American guide Paul Raphael will lead a hike along the Fox Den trail teaching how to read the winter landscape, look for signs of native animals, and distinguish a variety of animal tracks.

A donation of $5.00 is suggested for each program, and participants should dress for the weather.

Call 231.941.0960 to register.

A full program description and schedule can be found at NatureIsCalling.org or by calling 231-941-0960.  The Nature Center is located at 1450 Cass Rd., just 1.5 miles south of South Airport Rd. in Traverse City.  The Nature Center is open to the public on Tuesday/Thursday/Friday/Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
