Affordable North: Learn Animal Tracks at Traverse City Workshop

Your Affordable North afternoon: Catch a tracking class at Grand Traverse Conservation District ($5 donation), then seek more outdoors inspiration in the taxidermied realm of Sleder's Tavern. They've got yer moose head, deer head, wolverine (whole thing), bobcat (whole thing) and that ever-elusive jack-a-lope (whole thing). They've also got yer dynamite hamburger--order one up with a nice hot cocoa and whipped cream.
Sign up for the Art of Tracking & Bird Language, Saturday, January 24 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., and messages from the natural world will take on meaning, tell you a story about what's around you.
This program is only open to adults and will be meeting at the Boardman River Nature Center. Native American guide Paul Raphael will lead a hike along the Fox Den trail teaching how to read the winter landscape, look for signs of native animals, and distinguish a variety of animal tracks.
A donation of $5.00 is suggested for each program, and participants should dress for the weather.

The Nature Center is located at 1450 Cass Rd., just 1.5 miles south of South Airport Rd. in Traverse City. The Nature Center is open to the public on Tuesday/Thursday/Friday/Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
