The Interlochen Arts Academy Opera Workshop will present Mozart’s comic opera Così fan tutte January 30 and 31, in Corson Auditorium. The opera will be sung in English, with supertitles projected above the stage. Performances will be offered at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, with the program lasting approximately 90 minutes.
The Interlochen Arts Academy’s Opera Workshop offers serious young singers an introduction to stage work as it applies to the singing actor. Each semester culminates with a public performance of opera scenes performed by members of the class -– complete with costumes, makeup and lighting. Twenty-six students will participate in the performance, under the direction of voice instructor Isaac Hurtado. David Lake is the music director and pianist.
Così fan tutte premiered in 1790 at the Burgtheater in Vienna, with music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and libretto by Lorenzo da Ponte. The title, Così fan tutte, literally means “Thus do all [women].” The opera is a madcap comedy that revolves around two sets of lovers and their friend, Don Alfonso, who –- claiming that women are incapable of fidelity –- sets out to teach them all a lesson about love.
Tickets for the performance are $9 for adults, $6 for seniors and students and are available online at tickets.interlochen.org. To purchase tickets over the phone, call the Interlochen box office at 800-681-5920 or 231-276-7800 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
