Northern Michigan Events: So, you didn't flock to Florida? Come bare the bitter height of winter with Northern Michigan's best hot n' hearty chili. We've mapped out the biggest cook-offs for the biggest appetites (because we all know the only thing better than homemade chili is ten bowls of homemade chili).
Now go grab your spoon and a handful of Tums—things are about to get saucy.
Traverse City's 19th Annual Downtown Chili Cook-Off
January 12: Area restaurants compete for top honors in eight categories (1,2 and 3 Alarm, White, Seafood, No Bean, Ethnic and Vegetarian)
January 17-19: Also enjoy snow carving, outhouse race, sleigh rides, poker walk, indoor ice skating, euchre tournament, cocoa & more
Bay Harbor Ice & Spice Festival
January 18-19: Fire performers, pieces by National Ice Carving Association & nighttime firework display
Cadillac North American Snow Festival
January 31- February 3: Miss Cadillac Pageant, snow sculpting, fun run, live bands, lake races, ice fishing, polar dip, raffles, & much more
Winter Fun Days at Hanson Hills in Grayling
February 1-3: Marshmallow roasting, free lift tickets and trail passes, Big Air Competition, Sled Box Race, & Paintball Biathlon
February 9: Also includes annual fish toss competition, horse drawn wagon rides, frozen turkey bowling, dog sled competition & more
February 9 & 16: Fishing tournaments, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, Corks & Canvas Benefit, beer tasting plus more
February 14-17: Pub shuffle, horse drawn sleigh rides, cross country skiing, kids games, clay pigeon shoot, craft show, golf on ice
Glen Arbor Winterfest and Chili Cook-Off
February 16: Area restaurants join Glen Arborites in a no nonsense chilli competition on the deck of Boonedocks in Glen Arbor.
Harbor Springs Annual Chili Cook-Off
February 17: This year, partnering with the Food Pantry of Harbor Springs. Attendees are encouraged to bring canned goods.
