The 6 p.m. showing of Christina, a film produced by 8180 Films in Leland is sold out, but you can still get tickets for the 9 p.m. screening of the Traverse City Red Carpet Premiere of Christina at the State Theatre in Traverse City. Cast, director and the 8180 Film's team will be in attendance.
Christina is set in Post World War II, Berlin and tells the story of a young German woman as she prepares to leave the war-ravaged city to begin a new life in America with her G.I. fiancé. But standing between her and a hopeful future is a relentless police inspector, determined to prevent her from escaping her past. Christina was written and directed by Larry Brand and produced by Kees Van Oostrum and Jon C. Schelde. Rebecca Reynolds and James Carpenter were Executive Producers. The film stars Nicki Aycox, Jordan Belfi and Stephen Lang and
Here's what Reynolds, one of the three partners in 8180 Films, had to say about making the film:
When you’ve worked in Hollywood for years making other folks’ films, there’s always the dream to ‘green light’ your own. That’s the only way to have creative control of the final product. So when my long-time writing partner, director Larry Brand, called with a script that lent itself to a doable low budget venture, I jumped at the chance. My husband, Jim Carpenter, also read Brand’s screenplay and saw the potential immediately. Jim, Larry and I went on to form 8180 Films, and the result is Christina, a post World War II drama inspired by a true story. Written and directed by Larry Brand, Christina stars Stephen Lang (Avatar’s “Colonel Quaritch”), Jordan Belfi (Entourage’s “Adam Davies”), and Dark Blue star Nicki Aycox in the film’s title role.
The film took three years from pre-production to post-production to complete. Christina has been in four film festivals, where it has won seven major awards, including Best Film, Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking, and Best Actor and Actress for the two leads.
8180 Films’ next project will be Trunk, a psychological revenge thriller, to be directed by Brand from his taut and intense script. Trunk will be shot in Michigan, taking advantage of Michigan’s Film Incentive program. While Christina was entirely funded by our friends and family, this time around we are opening up funding opportunities to others who might find it fun to get involved in Michigan grassroots filmmaking.
