Best Docs List

How are Best Doctors chosen? A legitimate question, certainly. Here’s the background. Nearly 20 years ago, a physician affiliated with Harvard University School of Medicine was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Looking for second opinions and treatment options, he called other physicians whom he respected. That led to a more promising diagnosis and successful treatment, and the man is still alive.

His experience gave him an idea: What if all patients had access to a network like his? He and some colleagues formed a company that they called Best Doctors, which is essentially a medical survey firm. The company contacts physicians and asks them whom they’d recommend for a loved one in various specialties. The results are then put through additional background checks and statistical analysis. Thousands of doctors across the United States make it onto the final list, and what we’re presenting here are the 54 physicians from Northern Michigan who were selected. Is this survey perfect? Of course not; no survey is. But it does give us a good way to celebrate the people who take care of us here in the North.
