Historic St. Anne's Catholic Church, built in the late 1820's, has long been the spirited center of Mackinac Island. Each summer visitors flock to the white-steepled structure to take in its storied religious history (check out the basement museum to learn about religion on the island from its 1670 Jesuit missionary beginnings), its lively late-night Jamaican worship services and its grand wedding processions.

And this summer, starting July 1, the church will again host weekly square dances on its outdoor deck. Look for a live band -- Mr. John Findley, a lector of the parish and owner of Small Point Bed & Breakfast, is the caller; Brother Jim Boynton, SJ is the fiddler -- plus the smell of Mackinac Island lilacs in the air and some serious foot stomping, swinging and skip-to-my-Lou-ing before sunset.
