Amy Speace at Concerts in the Barn, Aten Place

Come lean back in a theater seat or sit on a hay bale this Saturday and enjoy an evening of music near Boyne City.

Have you ever been listening to beautiful music and thought, This would sound better in an old barn? Well, maybe not, but Bill and Maxine Aten, owners of Aten Place, have, and they hope you’ll join them to share the experience. This Saturday at 7:30 p.m. former NPR Song of the Day featured artist Amy Speace opens the annual Concerts in the Barn series. The concerts started more than 10 years ago as informal gatherings between the Atens and their friends at their home in Boyne Falls, and have grown up into a well-known summertime music series. The barn in question has theater seating for 175 and impressive lighting and sound systems and hosts concerts throughout the summer.

Doors open and tickets go on sale at 6 p.m. the day of the show. Tickets are $10. No food or beverages are sold, but feel free to bring a dish to pass. Take U.S. 131 to Cherry Hill Rd. (just north of entrance to Boyne Mountain); turn east on Cherry Hill then south on Old Mackinaw Trail, go 1/2 mile. Call 231-549-2076 or visit atenplace.com for more information and to check out the entire summer lineup (IT'S GOOD!). Click here for Amy Speace’s NPR Song of the Day entry.
