Note from the Architect-
As long as I can remember, I have been fascinated with building and buildings. As a child growing up in what is now the Congo, I watched in wonder as my father fired bricks and labored to build simple shelters, battling the same enemies every architect faces today: sun and wind, fire and water.
Since then, I have lived on three continents in four different countries, and traveled through many more along the way. I have seen countless buildings, from the most primitive structures in the villages of central Africa to the most ornate baroque palaces of Europe. Always I ask the same questions: what was the architect or builder trying to accomplish? What problems did he face, and how did he solve them? What was successful and what failed? What is pleasing, or not, about this element, that detail, this proportion, that space? Always my quest has been to allow these observations to inform my own work, whether it is new construction or historical preservation. And always, in doing so, I strive to improve the quality of our built environment and, ultimately, the quality of life for my clients.
I have spent the better part of my adult life studying architectural history and applying the principles of traditional building and design to my work. My studies and travels over the years, my experience as an architect at the drawing board, in the field, and in the classroom, have only fueled my passion both for creating buildings that will endure, and for preserving our architectural heritage as a legacy for generations to come. This portfolio represents the fruit of that labor, and my continuing commitment to the art and practice of architecture.
