Never been geocaching? Head to the Goodhart Farms Preserve (go to landtrust.org for directions) on Saturday, May 17 at 10:00 a.m. where the Little Traverse Conservancy's Charles Dawley will give you the skinny on how this mix of hiking and treasure hunting really works. Dawley will explain how the GPS system works and then he'll help you find two, newly placed geocaches on the preserve. It's an easy hike—approximately two miles—and you'll need to bring your own GPS receiver unit.

Experienced sleuths have 20+ more reasons to head into the woods: the Little Traverse Conservancy has announced that geocaches are now buried on preserves from Charlevoix County to Chippewa County. Preserve information and directions can be found on the LTC website at landtrust.org. How savvy is the Conservancy when it comes to technology? For those of you with Garmin GPS systems, you can load a custom Preserve map onto your GPS right from their site. Contact them at ltc@landtrust.org to get more information on the Conservancy's geocaching policy.
