Our mission calls us to “manifest the love and compassion of Jesus Christ by protecting and enhancing the lives of children and families through quality social services.”
Bethany’s comprehensive services include adoption, foster care, and counseling because we know children thrive in safe,
loving, and strong families. We are committed to finding the best families for children in need around the world.
Bethany Christian Services is the nation’s largest adoption agency. We also provide care for orphans living on five continents. We are called to care for children of all ages and in all stages of life. We serve children at conception by counseling women with unplanned pregnancies and by providing frozen embryos a chance for full life through our embryo adoption program. Our commitment extends to children and teens who are living in foster care or in orphanages—children
who need a “forever family.”
Bethany Christian Services began in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1944 as the fulfillment of a dream shared by two young
women, Marguerite Bonnema and Mary DeBoer, who wanted to establish a Christian residence for homeless children. With the assistance of businessman Andrew VanderVeer, they established the Bethany Home. Their humble ministry has grown into an international adoption and orphan care agency of 1,000 dedicated staff actively ministering to children and families in 33 U.S. states and in 17 other countries.
Bethany Christian Services expanded into northern Michigan on November 1, 1999, with the establishment of the
Traverse City branch office.
Placing more than 60 children with families through Domestic Infant, Intercountry, and Older Child Adoptions.
Serving more than 100 foster children.
Reaching more than 25 expectant women and counseling them about life-affirming options.
Golf Outing: June 2010. Bethany holds many special events throughout the year to raise funds and awareness for adoption and foster care. Volunteers and committee members are needed and appreciated.
One of our biggest needs is ongoing financial support. Donations support our adoption and foster care programs, in addition to counseling for women with unplanned pregnancies. Our “dream” wish list also includes an office vehicle or land to build
a Traverse City office.
