The Lions of Michigan Foundation is a Public Charity that works in partnership with Michigan Lions Clubs to address serious human needs within communities that are beyond the capabilities of most individual Lions Clubs and other community
We provide access to affordable medical care for the uninsured and underinsured and administer programs designed to improve youth development and community development and to foster the independence of the disabled and elderly.
The Lions of Michigan Foundation was created in the early 1980’s to help low income Michigan residents who did not have adequate health insurance and who did not qualify for government funded programs like Medicaid and Medicare.
The premise was that we would use our network of more than 500 Lions Clubs in Michigan to identify and help struggling Michigan residents who had nowhere else to turn for help with medical treatment and other quality of life issues, and
we would negotiate fees and form service agreements with health care providers to stretch the available funding to help as many people as possible.
Although we have a very diverse list of programs, we emphasize Sight Restoration, Hearing & Speech improvement and
Emergency Medical Care. Assistance is provided through an application process, and people seeking help should contact their local Lions Clubs to inquire about our programs. Lions Club contact information is available by calling 517-887-6640.
The Lions of Michigan Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life of people in Michigan with unmet needs by helping them become more independent and self sufficient.
The Lions of Michigan Foundation is always seeking the help of caring individuals who have experience in business, fundraising or the health care field to serve in advisory roles.
In addition, Lions Clubs throughout Michigan seek service-minded individuals to perform community service and join the largest service club in the world. Our “We Serve” attitude spans 45,000 Lions Club in 205 countries and geographical areas.
Donations can be made through our website or mailed to our office in Lansing. Donations can be designated for a current
program area or for other programs that the donor believes are important (Donor Advised Funds). Donations can be restricted to provide support in certain counties or geographical areas of the state.
In addition to donations, support is needed for our Lion Mints Program and our Sight & Hearing Sweepstakes – statewide
raffle. We are looking for Michigan businesses and retailers who willing to help sell our Lion Mint products and raffle tickets.
Recent cuts to the Medicaid Program have left over 1 million Michigan residents without insurance coverage for eye care and hearing aids. Our Sight Restoration and Hearing & Speech Improvement Programs will not keep pace without additional funding.
