The Grand Traverse Pavilions Foundation was organized exclusively to raise financial support for the Grand Traverse Pavilions to enhance the quality of life of those who make the Pavilions their home or utilize related healthcare services while providing access to all citizens regardless of their ability to pay.
Grand Traverse Pavilions' rich heritage dates back to 1911 with the opening of the Grand Traverse County Infirmary. With the emergence of Medicaid, Grand Traverse County Medical Care was created out of Public Act 280 with a new building constructed in 1959. In 1990, a campus plan was envisioned to account for the community's growing aged population and the desire for a continuum of care on the historic Grand Traverse Commons. Grand Traverse Pavilions opened in 1998, followed by the restoration of three historic Cottages into senior assisted living apartments. In 2002, Grand Traverse Pavilions became the region's first and only public, non-profit continuum of care, providing over 3 million dollars annually in uncompensated care and services to individuals who reside on our campus. This includes long-term, skilled nursing services, which Medicaid reimburses at less than the cost to provide and also by offering sliding scale fees to those who reside in assisted living apartments where currently no government assistance exists.
The primary goal is to grow the size of endowment funds to ensure access to care and services for years to come for all citizens of the region while enhancing the quality of programs, services and environment. The growth of endowment funds is critical to bridging the gap between the actual cost of providing services and the reimbursement received.
