Habitat for Humanity

Brief History

For the past 22 years Habitat for Humanity-Grand Traverse Region has worked in partnership with our community to provide simple, decent, affordable housing to families in need. Our ministry has assisted over 90 families with a "hand up, not a hand out" by coordinating families and volunteers to build homes side by side.

Goals

Habitat for Humanity seeks to eliminate substandard housing in the Grand Traverse Region by partnering with the community to build as many simple, decent, affordable homes as possible. Our goal is to build 10-12 homes in the area annually.

Volunteer Opportunities

We have many volunteer opportunities in our organization ranging from working as a construction volunteer, to serving on one of our committees, volunteering in our office or ReStore, at one of our Special Events, or on our Board of Directors. Giving Opportunities

Home Sponsorships-We have a variety of sponsorship amounts available for families, churches, or corporations to get involved sponsoring a specific home for a Partner Family. General Fund Giving-These funds are used where our Board and Director assign them, from purchasing land, re-purchasing homes, or our small administrative budget. In-kind Donations-We welcome in-kind donations of services and building materials for our homes such as donated excavating of a crawl space, licensed plumbing, heating, or electrical labor, and other items that fit our homes specs list. Tax credits for these donations may be available. Donations to our Re-Store-Our ReStore located off Barlow Street welcomes donations of good working appliances, furniture, building supplies, and other items. The sale of these items generates funds for our program and allows us to build more homes each year. All are welcome to donate to or shop our ReStore. Endowment Giving-Habitat for Humanity-Grand Traverse Region has an Endowment Fund at Huntington Bank and the Community Foundation. Fundraising Events

Annual Spring Flower and Garden Show-Scheduled April 3,4,5, 2009 at the Grand Traverse County Civic Center, this is our largest fundraiser and is great fun for visitors to browse the many exhibitor booths, attend seminars, and stroll the centerpiece gardens. Gift Wrapping- Holiday shoppers are encouraged to stop by our booth in the Grand Traverse mall and bring their items to be wrapped, saving them time and allowing them to donate to Habitat.
