Lutheran Child & Family Service of Michigan

Mission Statement

Lutheran Child & Family Service of Michigan (LCFS), as an expression of God's love, provides hope through quality human services.

Brief History

LCFS is a not-for-profit organization committed to developing and providing the services necessary to enhance the lives of at risk or in need children and families. Since 1899, LCFS has been providing quality child and family services through strong partnerships with communities, government, churches, businesses and individuals. LCFS provides home based family preservation services, placement services including foster care and residential treatment care, adoption, teen parent services and counseling. LCFS is the largest provider of family preservation services in Michigan.

Goals

Today, children and families face unsettling and complex issues that often require professional care with large measures of sensitivity and concern. LCFS is committed to providing a stable foundation for effective living.

Volunteer Opportunities

LCFS places volunteers according to their interests and skill sets. Volunteers can assist on projects from coat drives to granting Christmas wishes; from hosting fund raisers to collecting school supplies. For more information and to learn more about all of our Community Caring Projects, visit www.lcfsmi.org or call 989-686-7650.

Giving Opportunities

ANNUAL FUND The annual fund helps provide the necessary resources for daily services, programs and activities. The agency's annual fund helps bridge the gap between the cost of services and revenue received as a result of contractual agreements, while also providing enhanced opportunities, "little extras" which benefit children and families. For many children and families, this "little extra" means so much. PLANNED GIVING Estate planning often opens up opportunities to benefit one's family while helping those less fortunate. For more information on planned giving, visit www.lcfsmi.org. IN-KIND DONATIONS LCFS accepts donations of back packs, school supplies, gift cards, diapers, clothes, cleaning supplies, car seats, etc. All such gifts are given directly to the children and families.

Fundraising Events

Joy Along The Way The LCFS annual social event held on March 7, 2009 in Frankenmuth, Michigan highlights the work of LCFS. Known as "Joy Along the Way," this event recognizes outstanding and unique contributions benefiting children and families in various communities in Michigan. Joy truly marks the lives of those, who in varied and many ways, make life better for others. LCFS Annual Golf Outing The LCFS Annual Golf Outing held on June 19, 2009, in Bay City, is an opportunity for friends and donors to enjoy a day of golf and fellowship, while supporting the children and families served by LCFS. The Karl L. Seavitt Memorial Tournament The annual golf outing held in September each year, raises money for the BGR residential campus in Farmington Hills, Michigan. The campus houses 80 residents between the ages of 12 and 18 and has a certified special education on grounds school. In April 2008, Boys and Girls Republic merged with LCFS. This merger of two organizations, both with histories dating back to the late 1890's, provides an array of services to meet the needs of children and families in the 21st century. For more information on the Karl L. Seavitt Memorial Tournament, please call 248-476-9550.
