Get your groove on every Friday in Traverse City from 10 p.m. to midnight at Northwestern Michigan College's weekly "Chance to Dance," where beginners and experienced dancers can enjoy a mix of dance styles including waltz, blues, swing/jittterbug, slowdance, tango, Latin (salsa, cha-cha), and more. Dance instructor Mykl Werth is on hand every week to keep the tunes rolling and help participants practice learned steps and discover new ones.
"Chance to Dance" is held every Friday, from now until to December 4 (except on November 27) in the NMC Physical Education Building. Admission is $5 at the door. No partner necessary—just bring yourself and some slippery-soled shoes, and get ready to groove.
Looking for a little more instruction? Four-week dance courses in social dancing and Latin dancing begin Friday, November 6 for those wanting more structured dance lessons. The Latin dancing session runs from 6:15 p.m. to 8 p.m., and social dancing is taught from 8:15 to 10 p.m. The cost of each four-week course is $49 per individual or $89 per couple. For more information or to register, call NMC at 231-995-1700.
Show us your skills! Put your new moves to use every Thursday night, when Café Habana in T.C.'s Old Town District hosts open salsa dancing and lessons. The restaurant also serves up a solid menu of Cuban- and Latin-inspired dishes, with daily happy hour specials on mojitos, sangria and Latin cerveza between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., and from 11 p.m. to close. Dancing starts around 7 p.m. For details, see cafehabanas/traversecity.com.
