Autism is a disorder in which different parts of the brain do not work together. This makes it difficult or impossible to communicate with and relate to others. Children with autism and
related disorders often have trouble understanding and interacting with the world around
“A comprehensive diagnostic evaluation is the first step in treating autism,” according to Kelly Greene, PsyD. “An accurate diagnosis allows for treatment interventions to be specifically
tailored to the individual’s needs.”
“Our treatment approach is heavily outcome based,” says Greg Worthington, PsyD. “Working with each family, we set individualized goals and check in frequently to gauge progress.”
Drs. Greene and Worthington offer a comprehensive diagnostic and treatment program at Pine Rest Traverse City Clinic. One component is special behavioral training to teach children social skills, how to communicate and how to help themselves as they grow older.
Team member René Beyette, MA, LPC adds, “We can’t stress enough the importance of early detection and treatment in helping a child with autism improve language and social skills.”
