The Traverse City National Writers Series' Fall Schedule
The Traverse City National Writers Series plans for stellar authors, events and discussions for the fall 2012 season. Here's what's ahead.

Traverse City National Writers Series: Best-selling author and creator of the Jack Reacher series, Lee Child kicks off this fall’s National Writers Series lineup. Lee will take to the City Opera House stage September 18 with NWS founder Doug Stanton to discuss his life and work, including the eagerly anticipated new novel A Wanted Man (September 2012).
Other authors featured this fall include:
- Critically acclaimed and best-selling author Maggie Stiefvater, a wildly popular writer with teens and families who penned the Wolves of Mercy Falls Trilogy (September 27);
- Ayaan Hirsi Ali, political activist and best-selling author of Infidel, with guest host Jack Segal, top NATO adviser on Afghanistan and former U.S. Diplomat (October 11);
- Benjamin Busch, the Wire actor, photographer and acclaimed author of Dust to Dust (November 8);
- International best-selling author Michael Connelly, creator of the Harry Bosch series and The Lincoln Lawyer (November 29).
In its mission to support regional high school students interested in writing, NWS’s net proceeds from events go toward a scholarship fund. Starting this fall, NWS is kicking off its Front Street Writers Program, a partnership with Traverse City Area Public Schools. This new creative writing program brings together high school students with talented writing teachers (MFA graduates from America’s best writing programs) in a writing workshop setting. NWS guest authors will also visit the classroom to lead the students in master class discussions.
