Glen Arbor is tucked in the middle of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, the spot named by ABC’s Good Morning America as the most beautiful place in the country. Glen Arbor is a portal to miles of sand dunes and undeveloped Lake Michigan shoreline as well as the famously blue Glen Lakes—making it a Northern Michigan travel mecca for visitors from all over the world. The town proper is a hive of Northern Michigan shopping, including charming boutiques and specialty shops such as Cherry Republic, a cherry-themed business that features Northern Michigan’s cherries. In town eateries range from come-as-you-are Art’s Tavern to elegant Blu restaurant on the shore of Sleeping Bear Bay. Annual events include the free outdoor Sleeping Bear Dune Climb Concert in July and a February chili cook-off. Lodging choices range from Lake Michigan coastal camping at D.H. Day Campground in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, to The Homestead, an elegant four-season Northern Michigan resort situated on Lake Michigan. Outdoor activities in and around Glen Arbor include Crystal River kayaking and canoeing, boating on the Glen Lakes, Lake Michigan charter fishing for salmon and steelhead on Sleeping Bear Bay and miles of trails for Sleeping Bear Dune hiking and skiing. And of course, no one leaves without running pell-mell down the silky face of the Sleeping Bear Dune Climb.
