Harbor Springs

Perched on the Lake Michigan shore between Petoskey and the Mackinac Bridge, Harbor Springs is a classic northern Michigan harbortown that rises along one of the deepest sheltered natural harbors on the Great Lakes, an offshot of Little Traverse Bay. In summer, Great Lakes yachts crowd the harbor and vacationers roam the streets shopping the national quality art galleries, antiques galleries and boutiques. Harbor Springs is also noted as the southern end of Michigan’s legendary Tunnel of Trees, a twisty two-lane, officially named M-119, that runs north to Cross Village and that draws thousands of tourists every year, especially during fall color season, for an unforgettable road trip. In winter, Harbor Springs is a center of downhill skiing, with two of the Midwest’s premier ski resorts, Nub’s Nob and Boyne Highlands, just outside town. Jesuit priests were the first Europeans to settle in the area, and named it L’Arbre Croche, which means The Crooked Tree.
