Sit back and enjoy a slice of Americana, a little history and even some fireworks are we tour the cities of Houghton and Hancock in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The twin cities, connected by the Portage Lake Lift Bridge built in 1959 and the heaviest aerial lift bridge in the world, stand as the gateway to one of the most beautiful parts of Michigan and the world: The Keweenaw Peninsula.
Throughout Houghton and Hancock you will find Finnish influences as well as remembrances from the heyday of the copper industry. Both towns offer great recreational opportunities, art, shopping and good food. Houghton is the home of Michigan Technological University.
