As part of our Made In Northern Michigan series, Sean O'Keefe, vice-president and winemaker at Chateau Grand Traverse on the Old Mission Peninsula, talks about the many flavors and opportunities winemakers have with the Riesling grape grown in Northern Michigan.
Chateau Grand Traverse was founded in 1974 by Edward O’Keefe, and is the oldest and largest commercial winery and vineyard operation in northern Michigan. Chateau Grand Traverse has focused on ten key European vinifera grape varieties, one of which is Riesling, which thrive because of the moderating effects of the deep waters of Lake Michigan's Grand Traverse Bay.
Chateau Grand Traverse has a tasting room hours and as well as winery tours the hours of which change according to season. Check out the hours before you go.
Looking to spend a weekend in Northern Michigan's wine country? Chateau Grand Traverse offers The Inn, a six-room overlooking vineyards, orchards, and views of Grand Traverse Bay.
