Traverse City and the other 10 Great Wolf locations across the U.S. and Canada unofficially broke the Guinness World Records for "longest distance water sliding in 24 hours." Over 47,000 people participated, traveling 3,651 miles on water slides, breaking the old record of 843 miles set in Germany.
The Traverse City Great Wolf Lodge hosted 4,700 sliders who logged over 268 miles of riding over 24 hours, including riders from the Traverse City Wolves, Big Brothers, Big Sisters, the community in general and Great Wolf staff. By 6 pm on the 27th, Great Wolf Lodge had officially broke 3,600 miles and did break the Guinness record.
Called the "World's Largest Slide-athon!" every slider who descended the designated slide at each property donated $1 per slide and each participant counted toward breaking the record. Donations collected through contests, raffles and more for the local Big Brothers Big Sisters Chapter and was matched by Great Wolf Lodge up to $50,000. greatwolf.com/traverse/waterpark.
It’s official – Great Wolf Lodge set a new Guinness World Record for “longest distance watersliding in 24 hours in multiple venues! More than 45,000 individuals participated to set the new record of 3,593 miles – that’s the official Guinness number. Additionally, Great Wolf Lodge raised more than $125,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters during the Guinness Attempt held March 26-27, in which so many local families participated. Over the last year, Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse City has contributed more than $16,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters, including monies donated during the Guinness Attempt.
