Outdoors 101: Knots Every Outdoor Person Should Know Part 1

Knot-tying is an invaluable skill whether in the woods of Northern Michigan or on a boat in Lake Michigan. In this edition of Outdoors 101, we teach two basic knots.

 
 
 

Learn a few sturdy, reliable knots and your time outside will be easier, safer and more comfortable. What you learn in Part One (square knot and bowline) and Part Two (bowline on a bite, trucker's hitch and a couple of cool knot tricks) will be used to make a nice tarp shelter in Part Three.
