Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote about the Tahquamenon Falls area in his famous, "Song of Hiawatha," spinning images of undisturbed forests and tranquil rivers. It seems little has changed in the ensuing years in this 45,000 that now makes up the Tahquamenon Falls State Park.
Tahquamenon offers recreation and spectacular beauty year round, including hiking, fishing, camping, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, bird watching and more on its 40 miles of hiking trails, 13 inland lakes, 24 miles of the Tahquamenon River. You will literally never run out of landscape to explore since the park encompasses approximately 20,000 acres of natural area housing 125 species of nesting bird, moose, bear, wolves and more. A full schedule of interpretive programs and guided hikes takes place throughout the summer.
If you're camping, be sure to snag a waterfront campsite at Tahquamenon Falls State Park or Andrus Lake State Forest Campground.
