A line-up of late winter events at Shanty Creek in March and April offer a variety of wintery entertainment.  When it comes to winter events, Shanty Creek Resorts brings the best in exciting family fun by transforming its beautiful winter wonderland into a playground for all ages.

Beginning Saturday, March 1st, the Monster Energy Slush Cup Weekend at Schuss Mountain has been Shanty Creek’s most popular winter event for over 30 years, as it brings fun and silliness to the highest level. The ridiculousness peaks with the weekend’s premier main event—racing on skis and snowboards across an icy 40 foot pond while wearing wacky costumes. Other events slated for the weekend include a Frozen Fish Toss, Shovel Racing, Fruity Suity, Seal Slide, and the Silly Slalom.

On Saturday, March 8th, families and kids can enjoy the popular Cardboard Classic, which is one of the cutest events for kids on snow. Utilizing only cardboard, glue and tape to construct sleds, contestants then must race down the ski slopes at Schuss Mountain. Prizes will be awarded in junior and adult divisions for single sleds and team entries. Prizes are also awarded for “Best Design” and “Best Use of Shanty Creek and KHQ logos.”

Also on March 8th, The Michigan Monster Energy Winter Cup Series Finale is an exciting slope-style rail jam event, ideal for spectators wanting to see the best nailing it on Schuss’ Monster Park. The Series Finale is the culmination of a three-event total-points competition.  After rounds one and two (at Crystal Mountain and Boyne Highlands, respectively), Schuss Mountain’s Monster Park will once again host the finale. Afterward, there is a post-party hosted at Ivan’s Mountainside Grill that features the freshest DJ’s, Monster swag, and more.

Saturday, March 15th brings the Beer & Boards Brewfest, a craft beer festival that combines a day on the slopes and the joy of après-ski. Beer & Boards is held on the slopes in a tent at the base of Schuss Mountain, and features a dozen or more of Michigan’s best known craft brewers, featuring Bellaire’s own Short’s Brewing Company.

Lastly, on Saturday, April 5th and Sunday, April 6th, the Schuss Mountain Snow Challenge is expected to be one of Michigan’s biggest winter events. The Snow Challenge transforms the late-season slopes into side-by-side uphill truck racing tracks. Spectators watch as modified trucks, jeeps and others step on the gas and race to the top of Schuss Mountain. It’s loud, aggressive and for a great cause—a portion of the proceeds will help assist Michigan’s Disabled American Veterans.
