The story of Elizabeth Blair—or ‘Dilly’ to those close to her—starts when she received her first set of pearls after graduating from high school. From there, Dilly studied design at UCLA, where she gained knowledge in photography, fashion, and art. It wasn’t long before she was creating her own pearl collections for high-end retailer Neiman Marcus—which she still supplies today.
In 2007, Dilly opened her own store, Elizabeth Blair Fine Pearls, on Main St. in Harbor Springs. When asked what the inspiration was for her company, she responded, “When I moved to Harbor Springs I found this charming space on Main St. and I decided to create this retail store, or pearl salon.” Dilly designed every inch of her atelier and pearl salon, which encourages people to learn more about pearls and how her jewelry—notably her popular linen-backed pearl bracelets—are made.
Dilly’s “passion for fashion” as well as her past photography experience have allowed her to stay on top of all the workings of her business. “I have a photography background, so I do all the styling for our photos for the ads. I have a great knowledge of fashion.” Dilly also stated that she prefers her Harbor Springs store compared to selling directly to Neiman Marcus: “I love working with the ladies so I know how it looks on them—so I know it looks right. We have amazing repeat customers, and I’m very grateful.”
