Tis’ the season to be scared silly in Northern Michigan. The list below is a compilation of some of the best places around Northern Michigan to get your scare on this Halloween season! Attendees should note that most of these activities have kid friendly elements, but some are too intense for younger audiences.

Haunted Forest at Crystal Mountain
Saturdays, October 18 & 24 from 7–10 p.m.

Brave the haunted forest… if you dare. Warm yourself by the fire as the chill of distant screams fill the air. Tiptoe down the haunted trail, where frights lurk at every turn. Cost is $8 for ages 9 and up and free for ages 8 and under (but not recommended. Tickets can be purchased at the Park at Water’s Edge.

Screams in The Dark in Traverse City
Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in October & November 1

Terrified of the Grimfell Asylum? Maybe stray from this option. This year for a new experience try “Delirium.” It doesn’t disappoint if you are looking for an adrenaline rush! This is not a recommended adventure for littler ones, as it can get pretty intense. Learn more here.

Friday & Saturday in October & November 1 (for most activities)

Go on the Cursed Barn Haunt or wander through the Lights Out Maze! There are some kid friendly activities too which include Cobby’s Hay Maze as well as a spooky trick or treat walk. To see all of the activities click here.

Manistee’s Ghost Ship
Friday and Saturday nights in October beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Visitor’s can explore five decks of the ship and are promised to have the “yell” scared out of them! Learn more here.

Mackinaw Manor in Mackinaw City

Spooky Performances

Screening of the Original Phantom of the Opera at the Music House Museum
Saturday, October 18 at 5:30 or 7:30 p.m.

The original screening of Phantom of the Opera is pretty creepy…. The Music House Museum presents the 1925 horror classic ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ featuring Lon Chaney Sr. as the deformed Phantom who haunts the Paris Opera House, causing murder and mayhem in an attempt to make the woman he loves a star. The film will be accompanied by Andrew Rogers on the ‘Mighty’ Wurlitzer theater organ. Rogers, a Detroit native, is an organist at the Michigan Theatre in Ann Arbor and the Detroit Fox. Buried Child in Ludington
Thursday, October 23–Sunday, October 26

In collaboration with WSCC’s “Big Read” project, this riveting tragi-comedy-drama depicts the destruction of the American Dream through hidden family secrets, lies, and buried truths. Incest, infanticide, sadism, infidelity, adultery and mental illness all combine to create a compelling drama which resonates and turns the idyllic America of Norman Rockwell inside out!
