School is out, the kids are home, and all of a sudden it’s a lot harder to find time for the family to workout. Look no further, because The Grand Traverse YMCA in Traverse City offers a Summer Family Fit program. This free program was adapted by the YMCA as a way for the whole family to stay healthy and active throughout the summer months. The YMCA believes that offering a free morning program will inspire getting the kids up early to maintain an active lifestyle.

Here’s how the Summer Family Fit Program works. Inside the Y II_300PixelsIn order to partake in this great program, your family must be a YMCA Member. (Find out how to become a member at the YMCA Membership page). Each morning, on a drop-in basis, a YMCA member can drop their kids off between 8:00 and 8:15 am at the Child Watch Center or Multipurpose Room for an hour long fitness activity. Parents can then take the next hour to participate in one of the YMCA Summer Family Fit classes, a personal training session or workout solo in the Health & Wellness Center. All classes in this summer program have been designed by the YMCA and are tailored to fit active lifestyle needs based on age. Get the Summer Family Fit schedule and descriptions here.

The YMCA is a great place for the whole family to exercise and live a happy and healthy lifestyle. By starting each morning off at the YMCA, it not only allows the family to get their workout in early, but also supplies an energy boost to get through the day.
