After an amazing effort, the Leelanau Conservancy is set to buy Palmer Woods, the spectacular 707 acre woodland in Leelanau County’s Glen Arbor, adjacent to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The following is the Leelanau Conservancy’s announcement to its members:

Dear Friends,

We are thrilled to announce that together we have achieved the $4.1 million project fundraising goal for Palmer Woods! More than 600 donors from all across Leelanau and the nation stepped up to help permanently conserve this beautiful 707-acre property.

Now we are focused on finishing up final closing details. We expect to purchase Palmer Woods around the end of 2015 and to open the property in 2016, once trails and signs are in place. We would like to remind you that the property is still privately owned and not vailable to the public until the Leelanau Conservancy owns the land. We are in the process of developing management plans for this spectacular forest and will keep you informed as we move ahead! Thanks again to everyone who has supported Palmer Woods so far!
