TRAVERSE CITY: United Way of Northwest Michigan announces the 2nd annual “Rock the Block” event to be held on Friday, September 25th from 12:00-2:00 pm in the Traverse City Record-Eagle Parking Lot on the 100 Block of Front Street. Event participants are also invited to join a post-event happy hour from 4pm-6pm at Kilkenny’s Irish Pub located at 200 W. Front Street.

“Rock the Block” is open to the public and will include music, food, outdoor games, and an overall festive atmosphere. This year’s event will feature a live radio remote and a series of entertaining mascot competitions. The goal of “Rock the Block” is to provide an engaging community gathering that helps build awareness and participation in the annual United Way Giving Campaign.

“It’s true that we started out last year with just three companies but we’re really hoping to grow this event,” said Michelle Krumm, Senior Resource Development Manager with United Way. “Someday we’d like to not only rock our block but rock the whole downtown. This event is fun, and is a great way to get people excited about the annual United Way Giving Campaign.”

The Traverse City Record-Eagle, Gourdie-Fraser and Fifth Third Bank currently serve as the primary coordinators and founders of “Rock the Block”. This event marks the official start of their annual United Way Employee Giving Campaigns and encourages their employees to get involved in giving back to their community.

Additional businesses are being sought as “Rock the Block” hosts. Interested businesses may contact United Way of Northwest Michigan at 231-947-3200 for more details.
