Earlier this month, another award was added to the Grand Hotel’s shelf on Mackinac Island. From more than 200 nominees, the iconic Colonial Revival-era Northern Michigan hotel built in 1887 was awarded the “Best Historic Resort” by the Historic Hotels of America.
Historic Hotels of America is the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, recognizing and celebrating the finest historic hotels. In order to be considered for the 2015 Awards of Excellence, a hotel must be at least 50 years old, a National Historic Landmark or listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places, and of course, have historical significance. It’s no surprise that the Grand Hotel fit the requirements and took home one of their top awards on October 8 during the annual awards ceremony and gala in Indiana.
Congratulations, Grand Hotel!
