TRAVERSE CITY: A new schedule of lifelong learning classes is now available at Northwestern Michigan College. The winter/spring line-up contains over 275 learning opportunities which are open to the public. Topics range from technology to business, culinary, fitness, recreation, LIFE Academy, art, music, and more. NMC Extended Education classes begin continuously, December through May, with new ones each week.

New culinary classes include Whole Foods Workshop, Noodle Bowls, Tempting French Desserts, Mardi Gras Party, Sculpted Cakes, International Vegetarian, and Lamb. In all, there are 32 different cooking classes, including some for kids and adults to take together. The annual Festival of Foods will be held Saturday, February 6, 2016, at Hagerty Center.

If you are looking for ways to stay fit, there are dozens of fitness and yoga classes offered on different days and times to fit anyone’s schedule. Choices include total barre, pilates, fitness ball, HIIT-interval training, NIA, and aerobics, in addition to NMC’s affordably-priced fitness center.

LIFE Academy classes are targeted to those age 50 and over. Experience art, music, area attractions, global hot spots, and much more. The semi-annual Lifelong Learning Campus Day is slated for Friday, May 13.

The monthly luncheon lectures are more popular than ever. Explore Turkiye (the Country of Turkey) February 19 with NMC international student, Volkan Yildirim. “Legends of Traverse City”, on March 18, delves into historically interesting residents who made TC what it is today. On April 15, you will meet Jessie Zevalkink, who with her 23-year-old best friend, circumnavigated Eastern North America by water (also known as the Great Loop) in a 2-year journey they call “KATIEANDJESSIEONABOAT”. All of the luncheon events include a buffet for $19. The price is $10 if you wish to bring your own lunch.

Browse the classes at www.nmc.edu/ees or call Extended Education at (231) 995-1700 to receive a schedule by mail.
