GAYLORD: The Gaylord Area Convention and Tourism Bureau together with the City of Gaylord present the first annual Michigan Snowmobile Festival. The Northern Michigan event celebrating snowmobiles and the outdoors will take place the weekend of January 29 and 30 in Gaylord.

“Gaylord is one of the best snowmobile destinations in Michigan and we want to celebrate that,” commented Paul Beachnau, Executive Director of the Gaylord Area Convention and Tourism Bureau.

Gaylord snowmobile festivities kick off Friday, January 29 as vintage/antique riders, clubs and enthusiasts begin to arrive and park downtown at the Pavilion on Court. If you own a vintage or antique sled this is your chance to show it off.

Friday and Saturday evenings will include live music in the Beer Tent at the Pavilion on Court.  Louie Louie’s BBQ will be on hand serving up his finger lickin’ secret sauce, on smoked and rubbed BBQ meats with home-style sides.

Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. the Snowmobile Fun Run ride will begin at the Pavilion on Court.  Pre-register at snowmobilegaylord.com for only $20 per person and get a free commemorative Michigan Snowmobile Festival T-shirt. Interested participants can still register Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. for $25 per person (T-shirt not included). May the best hand win.

Saturday at noon the Snomo Rodeo will kick off at the Dog Park located at 540 S. Illinois Avenue.  If you’ve never seen a Snomo Rodeo, then you will want to witness it firsthand … and if you are feeling especially adventurous, we challenge you to enter one of the many competitive events, such as flag racing, barrel racing, relay racing, a “rescue race” and more.  Whether you are watching or participating, it’s sure to be a hoot! Gate fees are only $5 per person and $5 per event to participate, or a flat $15 unlimited fee. Sled race categories will include Kids (12 & up), 1 Lunger, 1970-1980 Vintage, 1980-1990 Classic, and 1990 & Newer.

Saturday at noon vintage/antique sleds will leave the Pavilion on Court, parade to the Snomo Rodeo and continue on an exclusive private vintage/antique sleds only ride. This ride will travel to and through the private pristine Treetops property. Whether you’re young, “young at heart” or somewhere in between, we have just the right mix of one lunger, vintage, classic, late model, adrenaline pumping smell of high octane fuel you’ve been longing for.
