INTERLOCHEN/TRAVERSE CITY: In celebration of a new partnership with Kirkbride Hall at the Village at Grand Traverse Commons, Interlochen Center for the Arts will be presenting “Artists from Interlochen,” a series of musical recitals highlighting the talents of several of its gifted Academy faculty.

The historic Kirkbride Hall will set the stage for the “Artists from Interlochen” series, and its partnership with Interlochen is a great opportunity for the school to spotlight its faculty. “We’re so happy to be able to bring this series to the local community, and to showcase these performances in such a beautiful venue,” said Christopher Gruits, Executive Director of Interlochen Presents. “Kirkbride Hall allows us a beautiful platform in which to bring this level of art and performance right into Traverse City.”

The first of four individual recitals is set to take place Saturday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the spacious Kirkbride Hall, with the rest of the series playing on select dates throughout April and May. The inaugural recital will premiere the Interlochen Faculty Brass Trio, consisting of Interlochen Arts Academy faculty members Tom Riccobono, Instructor of Low Brass; Ken Larson, Instructor of Trumpet; and Corbin Wagner, Instructor of Horn.

The talented trio will perform a selection of pieces arranged especially for horns, including “Trio for Trumpet, Trombone and Horn” by Francis Poulenc (1899-1963); “Trio for Brass” by Vaclav Nelhybel (1919-1996); Variations on Palestrina’s “Dona Nobis Pacem” by David Fetter (b. 1938) along with several more works.

In addition to this premiere event, the “Artists from Interlochen” series includes three recitals scheduled for dates in April and May. Each show is open to the public and features Interlochen Arts Academy faculty members. Director of Choirs and Instructor of Voice John Bragle, accompanied by Instructor of Piano Sheryl Lott, will perform on Saturday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m.; Instructor of Cello, Chamber Music and String Improvisation Crispin Campbell performs with Instructor of Piano Nozomi Khudyev and Instructor of Clarinet Emil Khudyev on Thursday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m.; and Instructor of Flute Nancy Stagnitta, accompanied on the piano by Susan Snyder, will perform a classical flute recital on Thursday, May 19 at 7:30 p.m.

“Traverse City has a reputation for embracing arts and culture,” said Gruits. “We are grateful that through this partnership, Kirkbride Hall allows us the opportunity to be a part of that, and to bring our talented faculty directly to the city. We are looking forward to continuing our relationship with Kirkbride in 2016.”

The Interlochen Arts Academy Faculty Brass Trio Recital takes place on Saturday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Kirkbride Hall. Tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for youths.
