April 22-23: Author Kristina Riggle provides practical tips and tools for the writer’s craft and life during this two-day workshop at Saturn Booksellers in Gaylord. 989.732.8899.

April 22-23: Ride in JEEP the Mac, and try and beat the number of Mini-Coopers, ATVs and farm tractors that have crossed the Mackinac Bridge as a group. A full schedule is planned for the two-day event including a welcome party, trail excursions, lunch on Drummond Island, prizes and more. 906.643.8717.

April 22-23: The Traverse City Trail Running Festival is Northern Michigan’s premier celebration of off-road running. The courses take runners through the Pere Marquette Forest on a variety of single-track and two-track trails. The festival begins with a two-person 10k relay (each runner runs 5k) on Friday evening, and the 10k, 25k and 50k individual races get underway on Saturday morning. April 23: Caravanserai II A Project of Arts Midwest: Colorado-based hip-hop/soul duo The Reminders are joined by a female hip-hop dance troupe and emceed by Caravanserai’s artistic director at the Milliken Auditorium in Traverse City at 5 p.m. 231.995.1055.

April 23: Celebrate Earth Day at a TART Trails Work Bees. TART is hosting work bees in many locations along the trail network. Work bees take place snow, rain or shine so dress for the elements. Participants have the opportunity to learn about TART and the trail network from TART Trail Ambassadors while performing light maintenance such as picking up trash and debris from 10 a.m. to noon. 231.941.4300.

April 24: The NMC Children’s Choir Spring Concert features Dolce, Bel Canto, Lyric, Ragazzo and Cantus performing music from around the world and celebrating their 25th anniversary season. The performance will be at the Lars Hockstad Auditorium in Traverse City at 3 p.m. 800.836.0717.

April 27-May 1: Celebrate the opening of trout season in Northern Michigan at the 80th annual National Trout Festival in Kalkaska. There will be fishing contests, a car show, family entertainment tent, queen coronation, children’s fishing contest and carnival, parades, special dinners, Taste of Trout, craft show, a flea market and fireworks.
