Before the summer vacation rush, drink in a Traverse City wine weekend getaway this April. Enjoy local wine and music, delicious small plates and overnight lodging packages that won’t break the bank.

On Saturday, April 9, the Grand Traverse Resort is hosting the Wineries of Old Mission Peninsula (WOMP) Wine Dinner. “The WOMP Wine Dinner is unique in uniting all eight of the wineries of Old Mission in one single place,” says eMarketing Manager Kelly Yauk. “Often events that offer an opportunity to taste multiple WOMP wines involve driving to each winery.”

The event is set up with each winery at its own station with winery representatives on hand to discuss their wine. Guests have an opportunity to walk from “vineyard to vineyard” and try a different wine paired with a different dish at each stop. The eight wineries and their selections are listed below.

In addition to sampling some of the best wine in Northern Michigan, guests will be treated to perfectly paired plates such as lobster bisque cappuccino and mascarpone amaretto cheesecake with passion fruit glaze (view the full dinner menu here), and Michigan singer and songwriter Blake Elliott will perform live during the event. Her music combines the sounds of indie folk, rock and the blues for a riveting, fun performance.

“Guests can relax and enjoy themselves, and then take the elevator home,” Kelly says. “We are lucky enough to be able to offer a full-service experience for guests. They can stay the night with us, head to Spa Grand Traverse, enjoy our Health Club and pools—really make the event a special getaway, or just come and enjoy the pairing dinner.” Overnight packages are available here.

Guests staying the night can continue their wine weekend with a visit to the vineyards of their favorite wines from the WOMP dinner. Spend the day touring Old Mission Peninsula and enjoying stunning vistas of Lake Michigan, rolling acres filled with vineyards and orchards, and, of course, more Northern Michigan wine.
