Hagerty announced that Collette “Coco” Champagne, Hagerty’s Chief People Officer, has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer.

“This is an important promotion for Hagerty,” CEO McKeel Hagerty says. “I’m a strong believer that a workplace with a growth mindset drives bottom-line results, and for a long time now Coco has led our efforts to create a world-class environment that helps us attract and retain some of the best talent in the automotive, insurance and automotive media industries.”

Champagne becomes the second woman COO in Hagerty history. According to a four-year market study by Saint Joseph’s University, women are under-represented in insurance industry upper management, occupying only 12 percent of C-suite positions.

Champagne joined Hagerty in 1999 as leader of the sales and service operation and was promoted to vice president of human resources in 2002. Most recently she held the title of Chief People Officer. In her new role, Champagne’s main priorities will be collaborating with senior executives to align all aspects of the company to its one-page plan, ensuring company operations remain rooted in its core values and vision for continued growth.

“Hagerty has become a market leader and an automotive brand recognized for excellence worldwide precisely because we have such great people,” Champagne says. “My passion since I joined Hagerty has been helping employees develop to their full potential so they in turn can continue to help us make Hagerty a stronger company and a fantastic place to work, and that will continue to be a major focus of mine as COO.”
