Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park

9001 W. US Hwy 23 | Mackinaw City

Established in 1790 to provide lumber for Mackinac Island, Mill Creek is one of the oldest industrial sites on the Upper Great Lakes. Today, visitors can watch the reconstructed sawmill in operation and discover over 200 years of history while hiking nearby trails, exploring exhibits and participating in naturalist programs.

The more than 600-acre park has three miles of forest trails with scenic views and two play areas for children in the Forest Friends Play Area and at the Water Power Station.

A family-friendly adventure tour takes participants on a guided trek over the Forest Canopy Bridge, down the 425-foot Eagle’s Flight Zip Line and up the five-story Treetop Discovery Climbing Wall.

Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park is open seasonally May 2 through October 9.

Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse

526 N. Huron Ave. | Mackinaw City

The Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse has helped guide passing ships through the Straits of Mackinac since 1889. Restored living quarters and exhibits give visitors an authentic look at this historic lighthouse.

There are free daily tours of the lighthouse tower given on a first-come, first serve basis. The new Straits of Mackinac Shipwreck Museum features original artifacts and audiovisual displays.

After exploring the lighthouse, enjoy lunch on the beach with the Straits of Mackinac and the Mackinac Bridge as a backdrop.

Colonial Michilimackinac

102 W. Straits Ave. | Mackinaw City

The 18th-century fort and fur trading village were reconstructed based on historic maps and more than 50 years of archaeological excavations that still continue today. Explore 16 buildings inside the fort furnished with period settings and exhibits, and watch hearth cooking and craft demonstrations. Then head back outside to see cannon and musket firings. Be sure to look over the fort walls to see stunning views of the Straits of Mackinac.
