OPERA NIGHT WITH THE BAY VIEW VOICE FACULTY
Don’t miss this year’s annual voice faculty concert held in the John M. Hall Auditorium on Wednesday, July 17 at 8pm. This special performance will feature works from Fidelio, Samson et Dalila, and many more, living up to its title: “Dramatic!”
During his lifetime, Ludwig von Beethoven produced only one opera: Fidelio, op 72. It tells the story of Leonore who rescues her husband Florestan from prison, disguised as a prison guard named “Fidelio.” The faculty will perform “Mir Ist so Wunderbar,” a quartet that tells of a misunderstanding when the daughter of the warden falls in love with Fidelio, unaware that it is actually Leonore.
The program also includes the work of French composer Camille Saint-Saëns, who wrote Samson et Dalila, op 47. This popular three-act opera retells a chapter in the biblical Book of Judges, in which Samson’s vow to lead the Hebrew revolution against the Philistines is tested by Dalila, a priestess who attempts to seduce him. Included in the program is “Il faut, pour assouvir ma haine,” from the second Act and at the height of Dalila’s influence over Samson.
Other featured operas include Don Giovanni, Il Trovatore, L’Elisir d’Amore, and Manon. Join the Bay View Music Festival faculty and experience these unique and dramatic performances for yourself, along with many more!
