FOURTHFEST NOW ON JUNE 30, CELEBRATE AMERICA ALL WEEK
Celebrate the birth of this great nation and honor our armed service people on June 30th in the John M. Hall Auditorium. Audience members can look forward to an array of classic patriotic tunes, sing-alongs, and popular songs, making this the perfect family-friendly event for kids of all ages. The concert takes the place of Bay View’s annual Fourthfest concert, historically held on the holiday itself. As is typical of this concert, it’s likely that a near sell-out will occur, so buying tickets in advance is recommended.
Risa Renae will grace the stage with her rendition of Sammy Fain’s “I’ll Be Seeing You,” a wartime classic. Since its release in 1938, the nostalgic song has been popularized by musicians including Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, and Billie Holiday. Other popular pieces include Paul Simon’s beautiful 1972 “American Tune,” in which Simon sings of hardship, weariness, and homesickness.
In an interesting twist, the program also features the popular ballet Appalachian Spring, composed by Aaron Copland. The piece was commissioned by choreographer and dancer Martha Graham as “an American theme” ballet and she danced the lead role at its premiere in 1944 at the Library of Congress. Copland’s music is the perfect sound for a patriotic concert.
Of course, audience members can look forward to patriotic classics like “The Star Spangled Banner,” “God Bless America,” and “America.” Sing-alongs also include time-old favorites like “Yankee Doodle,” “You’re a Grand Ol’ Flag,” and “This Land is Your Land.” Join the Bay View Music Festival to celebrate the Fourth with these pieces and so many more!
