Job Summary

Intermediate level engineer responsible for independently evaluating, selecting and applying standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Uses judgement in applying or recommending adaptions and modifications. Typical assignments are in the areas of engineering or scientific design, problem solving, and technical support for the optimum operation and maintenance of company assets. Participates on teams of field employees, technicians, engineers and other personnel.

Key Accountabilities

•Performs engineering assignments, proposing solutions to engineering related problems.
•Works with experienced professionals to recommend and implement timely solutions involving routine engineering, design, operation, maintenance of company assets and market optimization.
•Collaborates with more experienced engineers to provide follow-up and engineering assistance on defined problems within time and budget constraints.
•Develops models and analyzes data in order to recommend solutions and/or improvements in processes and programs; develops and presents presentations to all levels of management and/or external parties.
•May provide field engineering assistance or technical support.
•Keeps up to date on current technology and market/technology trends.
•The interpretation and evaluation of existing and upcoming changes of new or proposed State and Federal natural gas pipeline safety, compliance and reporting obligations, and development and management of compliance-based programs. Provide timely communication to senior management.  Work with internal Stakeholders to assist them with changes.
•Develop and maintain an active relationship with PHMSA and MPSC and represent the Company at audits and investigations as well as respond to all agency inquiries and notices.
•Develop and annually review the Operations & Maintenance Manual and lead/facilitate meetings to ensure changes are implemented.
•Complete and submit all required state and federal pipeline filings and reports (e.g. annual reports, construction reports, incident reports, etc) on time.  Provide guidance for the completion and submittal of required accident/incident reports, pipeline safety related condition reports and abnormal operating condition reports as requested.
•Develop standards, procedures, and/or processes for compliance with pipeline safety regulations.
•Assist various Company departments (e.g. GIS, Drug and Alcohol Testing, One-Call, Operator Qualification, TIMP, DIMP, Storage, Public Awareness, Damage Prevention, Emergency Response, Operations, Technical Training, Control Room, etc) on compliance issues as well as represent the department on special projects to ensure pipeline safety initiatives are incorporated to align with the Pipeline Safety Management System.Provide general support to the internal Stakeholder with focus on continuous improvement of systems, documentation practices with a focus on consistency and standardization.
•Provide regulatory updates to DTE Gas from PHMSA, MPSC, NTSB and participate in industry workshops.
•Perform other related duties and projects as assigned.
•Experience interacting, advising, and communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
•Experience developing documents and making presentations to groups.
•Review documents, prepare checklists, audit agendas, conduct pre and post audits and prepare final reports.Audit internal Stakeholder on compliance, identify opportunities for improvement and assist with closure of corrective actions.
•Conduct incident investigations and root cause analyses.
•Project Management Skills – ability to manage projects, develop efforts and collaborate effectively to obtain positive results
•Makes decisions systematically, can make decisions under pressure, builds a consensus, can make difficult/unpopular decisions and considers impact of decisions

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

•Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology and a minimum of 2 years of job relevant experience
